Day 13 of Advent
“I have light enough to see my darkness,”
Puritan Prayer Book
It sounds ironic, much like the line above, but one of the great
gifts of Advent, of God being with us, is that His light allows us to see and
the thing HE most shows us is our “SELF”.
As you know I am reading the book, What
Light Can Do, and have found the title to be the best part. It has focused
me on light and Light is one of the main themes of the Bible, of Christ Himself
and specifically what His light allows me to see. We are not only saved once but we are offered
salvation constantly, salvation from SELF.
Christ’s light illumines me and the more me I see the more I
know that on every day and in every way I need to be saved from myself. Christ in me being allowed freedom to animate
me is the greatest gift He gives me but I must be willing to accept Him. Most areas of my life I self-righteously
deem, REDEEMED, but Christ always gives me enough Light to see my own
darkness. There are many lights in ones
life, self, popular culture, media, politics, even religion but they always
seem to be shining the light on others, the True Light always seems to be
shining on me. The great gift of Advent
is knowing The Source of True Light and honestly seeing what it shows you and
that is one of the great benefits of what Light can do.
