Forgetting Advent

Day 10 of Advent

Sometimes we forget Advent as I did last night.  We had Bible story time, Betty and I sat in our comfortable recliner and listened to Our Daily Bread devotional on my laptop, we got on our knees, prayed, kissed, let the dog out, made the coffee, read from George Washington’s biography, kissed, prayed in bed and went to sleep all the while the candles stood silently cold and unlit until I noticed them this morning.  At times routine, even religious routine keeps us from noticing that Jesus is with us.  I do not know the moral of this story except that maybe the moral is the story; Jesus is always with us but we, at times, fail to light up with the pure joy of it.  What is so wonderfully Godly about Advent is knowing that Jesus did not sit all night beside our Advent wreath brooding over our callous forgetfulness planning out what He was going to say once I noticed Him.  He knows and I know now that He only said, “It’s ok, sometimes humans forget, and being once human, I know!”
