Advent Day One +

The One Problem With Advent

The beginning of Advent always focuses us on the Coming Christ, “the babe wrapped in swaddling clothes lying in a manger.”  Good feelings often ensue and if not we turn to Hallmark movies.  There’s one problem with that; remembering where that Baby is headed and why He is headed there.

A Word On Black

Black is not a color but the absence of color.  What it does is absorb all light into itself reflecting none back to you, it hoards all color, it is not a sharer!  Praise God He made a Saturday to follow our making of Black Friday.

The Right Way To Eat Till Your Stuffed

It is never wrong to eat till I’m full especially when a bountiful feast is laid before me.  It is always wrong if I partake without thanking The Being that thought up food and created an earth able to abundantly produce.  It is sin when thanklessness keeps me from consistently advocating and providing for those who do not enjoy the abundance of food that Grace has provided me.

Heart Ache

Oh that my old heart
Of iron and stone
Would daily turn to flesh
As I pondered the multitude of grace

That allows me Thanksgiving.

The Sport Of Thanksgiving

As in all things the ability to be thankful is something we must train at.  Here are some good ones to train with.  That vibrations can be perfect as in Elvis and Adele’s vocal cords, a mourning dove and Lynard Skynard’s Free Bird guitar solo.  That falling forward stopped by your foot is called walking, that your rear end is a cushion, that itches come with fingernails, fingers are the perfect size for so many holes and the youngest family member that carries your last name.  That good intention’s come with a perfect robot, you, that love is never bought or sold, that slick is often the perfect description, and your lover is 98.6 degrees.

Interstate 40 To Joy

Faith fosters joy or disappointment.  There are all manner of ways in which we practice faith, we all believe the sun will rise, oxygen will continually be available, the earth will rotate, gravity will always work, and our heart will keep beating, all complete acts of faith.  Also humans are worthy of our faith, which is why we readily drive on the interstate, invest with people we don’t know, board planes and trains and store our money in other people’s buildings.  But when it comes to God we want the facts while facing eternity as if we would place gravity in the dock and demand proof by jumping off the ledge.

Faith is to joy what the interstate is to getting to a distant lover.

Your Singular Focus

The human heart has one singular focus, to gain affirmation of the human being it resides in, to animate us in a certain way as to ensure we hear “well done!”  And there is One, it seems, whose main goal is to say it to every human.   What will you do with this man called The Christ, The Encourager?
