Truth

What is true, the most important and basic question of humanity is where to find truth.  Truth establishes foundation by which we can live with boldness and confidence.  The world is established by humans who have the truth and live it out everyday by living, constructing, and maintaining culture based on it.    By living faithfully in truth we establish safe, thriving and expanding culture even when our lives live in opposition to popular culture.  That is the great irony—by living in The Truth we allow all those around us to life safely, productively and creatively in their falsehoods.  Truth and those that live by it construct meaning for all to live effectively.  Never be afraid to live by truth because only by it will humanity survive.

Winthrop Rockefeller Estate--Heaven On Earth

The last few days I have lived at the Winthrop Rockefeller estate where it is obvious that money was no object.  It is very rewarding to see a great environment; home and structures that are well thought out and constructed with fine material, landscapes that are sensitive to plant shape and color along with flowing sight lines of pasture and field creating grand views.  Humans can have such a creative way with the earth and gently but with overwhelming purpose, create it anew and when it is done with unlimited resources it can be idyllic.

While I was in there I was building a sculpture in Petit Jean State Park and also hiking in the wilderness of south central Arkansas.  All three environments rely on nature to carry the idea of meaning.  Manicured estate, State Park, Wilderness are varying stages of the same thing but if manicured estate is humans idyllic creation, I believe wilderness is best understood as God’s creating heaven on earth.

Learning To Make Sculpture As An Old Soul

I do not build sculpture as much as I insure sculpture gets built.  My days of physically constructing work have past, I now mainly gently oversee allowing my sons and daughters to supervise and work.  The biggest key to making good sculpture is knowing how to make it not making it.  The biggest problem I am facing today is knowing how to allow my children to learn how to make work.  Sometimes you need them to learn from their mistakes; other times you need to step in and teach them how to build.  Discernment is knowing the difference.  Wisdom is doing it.

Not Wasting Youth

I am high up on a mountain, actually a butte, in central Arkansas.  Who knew Arkansas had buttes. I am with a several college kids, my oldest son and my lover all asleep in the cabin.  It’s wet and thick with fog and quiet as a long cigar.  I am outside getting the lay of the land.  Wild thing sing tunes in the woods.  We are here to build sculpture.  Young kids are good for an old soul, reminds me of The Grace that allowed me to outlive my youth.  They sleep and I marvel.  Youth is not wasted on an ancient old sculptor.

Being Pleasing

God help me please!  I leave today to travel to another state and build sculpture.  It is a fine calling to make works on the earth, standing under heaven and building Art in front of all those spectators.  When one is performing before a great many witnesses one should make sure and execute well, for each witnesses deserves a great performance.  God help me please You!
