Doing Good Option

Doing good is always an option.  There is never a moment of consciousness where doing good is not available to us.  Even in the many moments when nothing physical presents itself, we can always say, “Thank You!” because the ability to be aware is not something we buy or earn.  Living in a continual state of gratefulness is living in a continual state of awareness and that is doing good toward Someone who is being good to me.

On the minor league porch in the dark.

“The spiritual life is first of all a life.”
Thomas Merton

There is nothing more important to living a life for Christ than living a life with Christ.  This requires not only living with Him but daily practicing what He is doing.  A sports analogy may be necessary here.  Most of the time necessary to play a sport is spent on the practice field with the coach, not on the game field with the other team.  There’s the rub; most people only want the Friday night-lights.  Another sports truth may be applicable; the spiritual life is an individual sport.  We often spend time with other believers but most of our game time is spent one on one so most of our practice time should also be One on one.  And one last sports analogy, to spend a few years in the pros you must spend the majority of time in the minors.

Kairos Time

Kairos: A Greek term meaning the right, critical or opportune moment.  One of the greatest challenges I see college students face is the decision to become an artist—because the decision is really not, “Will you be an artist?” but rather, “Will you follow God as He leads you to those we have abandoned in the art world?”  Being an artist is really His reward for you being obedient.

I Need A Nina, Pinta or Santa Maria

Nothing seems to change more than the world you grew up in and the world you grow old in.

I wonder if it is me that has changed and the world has pretty much stayed the same.

One thing is true; something or someone has dramatically changed.

As I sit here in the dark I realize I like change, makes for a continual need for examination, contemplation, mediation—exploration.  Humans are born explorers.

Rest Altar

I can think of no greater gift than a full day of rest in every week.  Whoever thought that up is truly worthy of worship.  Sometimes my greatest act of worship is actually resting that day.  I wish I could build an altar every time I felt the desire to and actually knew I should.  A rest altar is in my future.
