Day 4 of Advent
O Lord,
I have a wild heart,
and
cannot stand before thee;
I am like a bird before a man,
Puritan Prayer Book
If we desire for Jesus to come to us as King we must first
desire to admit we are a great sinner.
It is like a very friendly man has leashed a very scared dog. The dog convulses at the end of the leash
gnawing at its restraints in primal terror knowing not that the friendly man is
the only one who desires its good will. Lie peacefully down…along with our sins
and allow The Peace of God, Christ Jesus, to be with us as His only goodwill is
to “cleanse us from all unrighteousness.”
We all have a wild heart; it is our only animating force for
good in this world. It needs to be cleansed not tamed. Lie
peacefully down…beside the first lit candle of Advent and let the glow of
His coming cleanse your wild heart.
