There
seems to be two camps in Christ as it relates to culture; one, we should hold
culture with strong suspicion because we are commanded to not “be in the
world”, or in contrast we are to take much joy in the created world and in the
creativity of humans for therein we see the image of God in everything. I much prefer the latter although I am very
much aware of my own self-righteous blindness, therefore, my greater need for God
to continually renew my eyes to see.
There is a way in which faith can continually firm up our foundations to
allow us to see The Divine behind and supporting much of what we would
otherwise, reject as un-Christian and throw out much of the baby of culture as
we are throwing out his bath, both of which, life and water, are creations of
God.
Blue Poles by Jackson Pollock who I consider one of the greatest painters of the last century. |
