I had a great honor yesterday to attend a Veterans Day program at a local middle school. The auditorium was packed with young students and their family members who were veterans as their fellow 4th graders put on the program. What struck me was from the moment I entered the school until I left, the students were so respectful, kind and sincere, they were attentive, well mannered and behaved. At one point it struck me how unbelievably different this community was than the one we see on the public media. Unfortunately, that community often reminds me of a Jerry Springer show. Our President, CNN, congressional committees, our elected Democrats and Republicans all seem to forget we are watching their spectacle. If the President and Jim Acosta had been in that auditorium yesterday they would have gotten a wonderful lesson. You can learn a lot from a fourth grader especially how to treat one another and how to behave in public. I wish we could put all of Washington and the media in the timeout sad corner and let middle schoolers run and report things for a while.
