Polar Bear or Circus Bear

Humans are wild and filled with ability for adventure but we have been tamed in the most heinous way.  We are not tamed as a colt to a bridal but as a circus bear to dance on a ball.  Our wildness now is foolishness.  Who has tamed us to this act?  Technology.  We have laid aside living and taken up entertainment.  Now we are both the circus bear and the audience equally fulfilling our only destiny; to be entertained.  But the truth remains, we are actually wild and filled with ability for adventure we need only turn off the circus. 

When our children were young we started a club, The Polar Bear Club.  To become a member you had to jump into an ice-cold river or lake.  Our youngest was last to join the club but she was desperate to do it.  I can still remember taking her to a small snowmelt lake high in the California Sierras and as we all cheered she jumped off the rock into the icy waters.  Afterwards she sat on the rock in the warm sun knowing the joy of being a Polar Bear not a circus bear.
