“What is it your plan to do/ with your one wild and precious
life?”
Poet Mary Oliver
I read the above this morning and was struck by its assumption,
mainly that our life is wild and precious. That smacks down existentialism and many like-minded
philosophies like some cur dog. One, it
assumes you have a choice and two it declares your life to be purposefully
full. I have found that the greatest
purpose for a wild life is to daily pursue The Personal God. Vocationally that means that I am compelled
to be an artist. I make art not as work
but as a means by which my life can continually be wild and
precious.
The fact that we even have the word Art purposes The God! |
