In many ways a work of art is like a great sermon and the act of
making it like the preparation. Suppose
there was The God; wouldn’t the responsibility of speaking for Him be the most
important vocation in any community? And
wouldn’t God’s main idea be that He loved us as we might imagine a mighty king
would love the weakest subject. And
wouldn’t God tell us in simple terms the most glory filled new truths and
wouldn’t those truths be about how we should be more divine as humans and love
as He loves. I can tell you from
experience that making art can be just such desire. The greatest art is trying desperately to
connect others with that which art seems connected with, and the greatest truth
I seem to always glimpse is that Someone love us in a way that is better
described as “enamored” and this love’s purpose is to rebirth us to life, a living
unimaginable before. And art, by its being, is for This The Only
God.
There is great triumph and tragedy there.
