I am often struck by how violence and violent acts seem to unite
us. They seem to jar our cores and
realign us to the sacred issues of being of which the question of being secure
in living and life after the security of physical life is threatened are two of
the most paramount. In the moment we are
shown the absolute brevity of being alive and the illusion of the absolute guarantee
of being alive we all seek to solve our own and our collective mortality. If there is any positive to come from random
acts of lethal evil it is the recognition that this search for meaning and
security of life is the most important search every human will undertake. Each one of us will eventually answer the
question, “What must I do to have eternal life?”
