One
more political comment. When I was young
it was our goal to reject the government for a much better way of managing our
affairs...ourselves. Love, peace, and
understanding were the rallying cries and rejection of “the man” (government)
was a prerequisite. It was such a great
premise, the people governing themselves, caring for one another, taking care
of the earth but there was one fatal flaw, an abandonment of the established
religious morality for individual situational ethics or as we yelled it, “FREEDOM
MAN!” Which brings us to the sorrowful
situation of today. Many of those same
freedom seekers of my youth have now turned to government as their new moral
compass and savior while a few were won over by The Original Hippy who not
only was love but showed us the way to love and peace and understanding. Politics, like all other human forms of
people management, leads to one thing, a power struggle where everything and
anything goes as a means to get the power which quickly moves from people management
to people control. Control is the
opposite of serve which is the true role of any good government and is the
central theme of Christ, “love others as yourself.” This form of self-governance returns the
power to the people to choose to love and serve one another, take care of the
planet, help the needy, and seeing in Jesus, not politics, the true example of
how we are to live together which aligns perfectly with another saying we use
to yell, “POWER TO THE PEOPLE, BABY!”
