Yesterday was Mother’s
Day. I have thought a lot about why my mother
is so good. She had a difficult
childhood, married young to an ambitious and visionary young pastor and raised
four rather wayward children each of whom eventually found their way. I do not know why she was such a good mother
but one reason does always come to mind; she allowed me to live in utter sin
without ever making me feel I had moved outside her unconditional love. In all those years in a “far off land” I never
felt condemned or judged but only that I was not living up to His calling but
that her mercy and grace was obvious evidence that my mom, for my sake, was.
