I
attended two events this week, Friday a retirement luncheon, Saturday a
graduation both very meaningful experiences.
One is for the fading, one for the dawning both for the not faint at
heart. I remember my graduation thinking
how I was going to change the world and now, nearing my retirement, wondering
how much I have changed the world.
Graduation was last night and it was typical, hot, long, physically
painful for a 60 year old, but above all I am able to daydream, all that young
blood raring to go—oh what lives they can live.
Getting life, by that I mean getting to have a human life, is like
winning the lottery, living that life is a like winning the Powerball. Retirement is for finishing and you know what
you are finishing, graduation is for beginning but there is no way you know
what you’re beginning—a life—oh what lives they can live.
