Perhaps the greatest mandate of art is to evidence to humans
what it means to live, the meaning of living.
This is also where most contemporary art fails. Today much art seem unconcerned with
explaining life but only with self-expression and gadgetry new surprises substituting
the profoundly meaningful for a whack at the neon piñata. Humans crave meaning, not only the eternal but
also the momentary, and art, done well, offers meaning for every fleeting
second; for every second of life is ripe with meaning not candy.
