One of the great traps of humanity is to limit all self-examination
in favor of a critical eye to all others.
We are happiest in our ignorance of self while conceiving ourselves wise
in the appraisal of others. We are sure
of our assessments of President Trump or Mrs. Clinton, of the liberals or the conservatives
of the democrats or the republicans of the redeemed or degenerate, of our
neighbor or our enemy, we are sure of everyone while living quite confidently
in the delusion that we, our selves, are mostly admirable. One of the greatest signs of wisdom is to
know oneself, for in the knowing of our certain “scoundrel-ness” we are less likely
to throw our self-righteousness stones toward others.
