I watched a television show last evening set in the early 20th
century where a young girl of sufficient means, good family, carefree life and
owning only two changes of clothes was given a new dress. The gift was received with rapture and the giver
the recipient of sincere joy. It struck
we that in our era of abundance we have lost something quiet significant, the
ability to give and receive a sincere gift.
Those that have so much can rarely know the exquisite feeling of giving
or receiving a meaningful gift; and that, unbeknownst to most, is a noteworthy
loss.
My beloved Cades Cove when all gifts were needed and meaningful. |
