“The aim of the person of faith is not to be as comfortable as
possible but to live as deeply and thoroughly as possible—to deal with the
reality of life, discover truth, create beauty, act out love.”
Eugene Peterson, Run With
The Horses, pg. 150
Mr. Peterson writes of the exile of Israel to Babylon as the
only way in which they could find true meaning in life. Ease and abundance had left them shallow and
obese. Being exiled to a body of pain is
much like that. All information,
spiritual, emotional, sensory is filtered through it. I once read a book titled, I Gotta Keep Dancing, a true story about
a man who had been hurt in a mountaineering accident and was relegated to a
life of constant pain. He said that pain
was the only way he knew he was alive. It
often seems that most people do not know they are alive or that their body is
one of the most profound gifts in all the cosmos.
Clouds are one of the most optimistic creations of God. Picture of Cades Cove another optimistic work. |
