Advent Day 22+

12-18-2015
Jesus with us.   Fathers and sons.  I am currently sitting beside the great Atlantic Ocean in some small foreign town waiting to marry my second son to his bride.  It’s dark and cold in this rental house and it’s raining. Everyone is asleep and its quiet and I am alone with my thoughts on fathers and sons.  Have read this morning in Genesis the powerful story of God’s command to Abraham to sacrifice Isaac, to kill him, his one and only son, the promised one of his ancient old age.  The story goes that he walked for three days to get to the mountain where he was to loose his son.  That was a hard walk.  This is a very personal Advent post and I am just letting you peak in on my quiet, cold, dark, alone time.  Tomorrow I will complete my four day journey to Bald Head Island where my son will “leave his mother and father and be joined to his wife”.  I don’t think that the first Christmas was a good time in heaven no more than this walk was a good time for Abraham or the trip here was altogether good for me.  But here is the good news as grey dawn comes over Oak Island NC.  God and I have something very much in common.  Neither of us lost our sons, we gained a bride!!!
