The Art Race May Be To Slow Down

What is Arts future?  I often puzzle on this question.  Technology is creating a new world as different as the Renaissance was from the Dark Ages but it is not exactly clear that this massive shift in culture development is good.  In the revolution of the Renaissance all culture shifts were human produced occurring at the pace of humanity.  Technology allows change to occur at a rate that is exceedingly faster than human which in increasingly programing humans to accept dramatic change without fully understanding the long-term consequences of the change.  Technology compounds this problem because it produces change on a continual basis often requiring humans to do nothing but adapt without exploring the implications of adaptation.  It is as if technology is programing humans to be what it needs and to have us play the role it needs which is for us to produce the material it needs to make it faster.  What is arts role in this race?  I think one underlying role is to slow us down and one primary way to do that is to advance the concept of the purity, sincerity and miraculous power of the elements of art.
