Fair Haven (name of our farm)
“The answer must be, I think, that beauty and grace are
performed whether or not we will or sense them.
The least we can do is try to be there.”
Pilgrim At Tinker Creek, Annie Dillard
There!
What strikes me about this sentence is the word
“performed.” Performed denotes a
deliberate act, to do something purposefully but also demands a Performer. It is like God is on stage delivering the
greatest performance ever conceived and He has left us comp tickets if we
desire to show up; “the least we can do is try to be there”. Being there is the least we can do, great applause
of praise may be a better response!
I love Annie Dillard!
