“…and to grant me the grace of simple praise.”
I have found there to be seasons of life in which difficulty was the daily norm. Age however can redefine difficulty. As we get older those things that use to hamper us now plague us as our bodies grow increasingly unable to respond effectively. Once I was able to overwhelm the issues, then I was able to equally react, and now I am moving into an age where I not only cannot conquer the issues but often even fail to have the energy too. One great advantage I have over difficulties is my mind. I have found that I can, at times, rethink how to respond and manage to make do. That in and of itself is a victory. The phrase above, by Christian Wiman, gave voice to one of God’s greatest gifts to rethinking how to effectively respond to the hard life.
Death Valley Jct. California was where my dad did missions with the American Indians while my mom keep the four children back in Tennessee. Two who mastered the act of simple praise. |
