There is a “hopeness” in the early morning darkness that seems
to set the tone for the day; it is the secure hope of dawn. The human hopes for nothing with more
sincerity and thus daily rewarded slowly develops a meaningful sense of
optimism. It seems to me that each day’s
hope is then encouraged by community and nature and destroyed by media and
technology. I do not write this as
metaphor but as reality, one must sit in the dark of the earth and be rewarded
by the light of the sun. Contemporary
life seems to hide humans from one of life’s regular miracles and balm of hope
that contemporary culture seems determined to replace with “GET READY, GET SET,
GO.”
