I
walked down the hall this morning and my body sounded like a bunch of old bones
clacking together like some primal drum solo.
There is a certain futility to life, we are born, live and die. We toil and strive for things that decay the
greatest of which is our body. This futility will soon lead to all manner of
wrongs unless we quickly remind ourselves of our purpose for being on this
planet, “lay up for yourself treasure in heaven.” This admonition from Christ makes one great
assumption, that we will be in heaven.
There is a great paradox here. We
can only be in heaven if we accept the gift from Christ and if we accept the
gift we are then commanded to live a life that naturally lays up the
treasure. Its like direct deposit, we
don’t go to heaven and deposit it, Christ in us lays Himself up there in our
account. It brings new meaning to the phrase "Being Saved!"
