Life
is a tough and complicated means to exist. That underscores the titles my Bible places on these
Proverbs, “On Life and Conduct.” I
saw a tree yesterday that reminded me of this reading. It was twisted and scarred; its trunk
and limbs were swollen with the evidence of past wounds as it hunkered down
over the hill with age. However,
all its hard life had only served to make it beautiful.
It
is often evident, in the life of the aged, those that have walked closely with
the Lord. It’s in their scarred,
but beautiful form.
“The glory of young men is their strength, and the honor of old men is their grey hair. Stripes that wound scour away evil, and strokes reach the innermost parts.” 20:29-30
