Job 29-32
The youngster, Elihu, enters the
story just as Job finishes reflecting on his own youth. We’re glad to know that the perplexing
nature of growing old is not new to us.
Job bemoans the good old days when he was young and strong and the world
was his oyster.
Here’s the surest sign you’re
growing old: when you stub your toe and you have time to think, “boy, this is
gonna hurt” before you actually feel the pain.
Here’s the good news. If you tally all the good times we will ever experience on this good earth, they will all be like dulled and peeling wallpaper on the sides of our souls compared to the ecstasy to come.
