"here in status symbol land"


I’ve been thinking a lot lately about America and its current state of affairs, a personal state of the union if you will.  It seems that our goal today is status, that our highest ambition is to obtain status.  There is nothing wrong with status unless that’s the objective.  When it becomes the objective we are no longer citizens or humans but symbols, symbols of whatever status we choose.  We are now a nation of emblems.  “It’s another Pleasant Valley Sunday…”
