Luke 6:12-48
The title of our Sunday school lesson is “Live to Benefit Others.” When we read the passage we are
immediately struck with the question, “does Jesus really expect me to live this
way?” It was only this morning
that I fully understood the lesson.
The key is in the first word, LIVE. That word is critical in understanding how radical Jesus
expects us to be. I may live to
make art, live to hike, live to chase my wife around the house, basically live
to entertain myself. Christ
demands a radical transformation.
To live exuberantly, actively devoted to the care of others. Whether they are our enemies or those
that struggle with the abject tragedies of life. Our lives should be characterized by actively living for
their benefit. To answer your question,
live for him.
