My Surprise Lilies are breaking ground. They mean so much to me. They come up in the early spring, the long
slender leaves so green and plentiful and then die and lay like shriveled
threads on the ground before disappearing all together. Then invariably in the midst of the heat of
summer, I, in passing, notice the delicate bloom, tied tight before budding,
springing up to fragrant flower. It is
always a joyful surprise. So much like
life on earth. We flourish in the
spring, live lives of meaning and then die and fade away until one day the trumpet
will sound and we will be called forth as blooming lilies of the Bride
Groom. I believe even the faithful will
be surprised at the resurrection, surprised lilies.
